Course Objectives:
This course will develop and extend the knowledge and understanding of teachers and build confidence in their delivery of games lessons. Basic co-ordination and games skills will be built up progressively using appropriate teaching and learning strategies, and issues of inclusion will be fully considered. Suitable co-operative and competitive game – like activities will be explored within the context of a balanced and progressive Scheme of Work which encourages and develops co-ordination; problem solving, creativity and working together. Safe organisation of equipment, children and playing space will be addressed as appropriate throughout the course.
Minimum expected standards of performance will be identified in detail for the end of year 2 to help participants make judgements about levels of attainment, and methods of assessment will be discussed.
As part of the National course each participant will receive a detailed and comprehensive teaching manual and scheme of work for Key Stage 1 Games (Click here to view the manual).
Partnership courses should provide for one manual per school as part of the training.
Course members should dress appropriately for some practical participation.

Safe organisation of equipment, playing space, and children will be considered and addressed throughout the course. Suitable game – like activities and mini games within the categories of Net/Wall, Striking/Fielding and Invasion games will be explored within the context of a balanced and Progressive scheme of Work which encourages and develops co-operation, problem solving, creativity and teamwork.
