Games Activities in Key Stage 1
Course Objectives:
- to develop knowledge and understanding of principles and material
content involved in the teaching of Games at Key Stage 1
- to develop and explore a progressive Scheme of Work
- to develop appropriate teaching and learning strategies
This course will develop and extend the knowledge and understanding
of teachers and build confidence in their delivery of games
lessons. Basic co-ordination and games skills will be built up
progressively
using appropriate teaching and learning strategies, and issues
of inclusion will be fully considered. Suitable co-operative
and competitive game – like activities will be explored
within the context of a balanced and progressive Scheme of
Work which
encourages and develops co-ordination; problem solving, creativity
and working together. Safe organisation of equipment, children
and playing space will be addressed as appropriate throughout
the course.
Minimum expected standards of performance will be identified in
detail for the end of year 2 to help participants make judgements
about levels of attainment, and methods of assessment will be discussed.
As part of the course each participant will receive a detailed
and comprehensive teaching manual and scheme of work for Key Stage
1 Games (Click here to view the
manual).
Course members should dress appropriately for some practical participation.

Course Objectives:
- to develop knowledge and understanding of principles and material
content involved in the teaching of Games at Key Stage 2
- to develop and explore a progressive Scheme of Work
- to develop appropriate teaching and learning strategies
This course will develop and extend the knowledge and understanding
of teachers and build confidence in their delivery of games
lessons. Games skills and basic strategies and tactics in small
sided
and mini-games will be explored and developed using appropriate
teaching
and learning strategies within a fully inclusive environment.
Safe organisation of equipment, playing space, and children
will be
considered and addressed throughout the course. Suitable game – like
activities and mini games within the categories of Net/Wall,
Striking/Fielding and Invasion games will be explored within
the context of a balanced
and Progressive scheme of Work which encourages and develops
co-operation, problem solving, creativity and teamwork.
Minimum expected standards of performance will be identified in
detail at the end of Years 4 and 6 to help participants make judgements
about levels of attainment. Methods of assessment will be discussed.

in the curriculum. Basic co-ordination and games skills will

up progressively using appropriate teaching and learning
strategies. Suitable co-operative and competitive game – like
activities will be explored and developed into small sided
and mini games
within the categories of Net/Wall, Striking/Fielding and

be developed.
