This is an original and comprehensive framework containing interesting, exciting and proven lesson material within a complete scheme of balanced and progressive games experiences that also develop co-operation, problem solving, creativity and team work. Exceeding the requirements of the National Curriculum, the manual enables the non-specialist physical education teacher to operate with high professional expertise right from the start.
There are 4 units of work for each year group and each unit contains learning objectives, unit framework, expected learning outcomes, and 6 detailed lesson plans. In year 6 the lessons are geard towards "game specific" mini games i.e. rugby, basketball, netball, cricket, rounders, tennis, volleyball, football and hockey. In all there are 120 lesson plans for Key Stage 2. Using a multi-skills approach.
The teaching guide has many useful tips on organisation of equipment, children and playing space, differentiation, lesson structure, suitable teaching strategies, assessment, "families" of games, inventing rules creating games, and a table that shows the overall progression and development of the scheme. There are detailed teaching points for basic games skills and an integration grid for "Top Play / Top Sport".
